Why I Became a Wrimo for #NaNoWriMo

“There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” – Ernest Hemingway

What is a Wrimo anyway?

Per Wikipedia:The term Wrimo has multiple uses in the National Novel Writing Month community.

An abbreviation of National Novel Writing Month

A participant in National Novel Writing Month

Wrimos are a diverse lot, and no two are alike. Traits that characterize many Wrimos include a love of writing, and a deep understanding of the numbers 1667 and 50,000.

Similar to why I Blogged Like Crazy this month, I did it to finally began my authorship journey. I actually learned about National Novel Writing Month (#NaNoWriMo) about 4 years ago.

At that time, not truly understanding all the details of the challenge, nor had set my heart on which of the many book titles I would actually start on or use for the challenge, I started an account on nanowrimo.org anyway. Needless to say that account sat dormant for four whole years until this year.

You never know what you can do until you try it. So many times over the past ten years I’ve set out to write a book. Primarily these books would be devotionals, health and fitness programs, poetry, and practical Christian living non-fiction genre books. I knew my writing ideas were God given and Holy Spirit inspired yet I lived in a constant fear of what if?

    What if ….

    1. Nobody reads it
    2. It never gets published
    3. It never sales

    And the list went on.

As I mentioned in my previous post on Why I Blogged Like Crazy, the enemy of productivity is fear. It’s not that I couldn’t write, it was whether or not I had what it took for the long haul. Blogging is one thing, even freelance article writing, but publishing a book, ummm yeah! Not so sure I’m going to be able to make that one happen.

Participating in two writing challenges that included daily writing, publishing posts, sharing my content, and showing up at virtual write-ins to write with others served FEAR an eviction notice this month.

Nevertheless, did I win #NaNoWriMo? Nope. I didn’t reach the 50K words in 30 Days towards my first potential book, but I am a lot further along than when my writing and authorship journey first began over a decade ago because I let go of What if?

    So until next time…
    Write from the Heart.
